Issue Two

Issue two of Grin and Bear It is here! I'm still kind of finding my feet with this zine, it doesn't really have a definate direction yet, but it's like a art/feminist/perzine. I'm working on issue three already, which will hopefully have a bit more original writing in it.

Anyway, if you would like a copy, just email your [home] address to grinandbearitzine@hotmail.co.uk  and I shall post you one! NOTE: due to limited funds I can only mail a few outside of the U.K, so first-come-first-served.
EDIT, 30th May: I have now sent all colour copies out to people, so I only have black and white ones left, (of which there are plenty!).

Go chase the wild and night time streets...

Today has been pretty swell. I woke up early and went to town, and as the sun was out we walked through the park, which was refreshing. There was this beautiful tree whose branches were stooped to the ground, pregnant with blossom, which I picked and swirled into the air like confetti. After some dull banking we went to some charity shops where I bought this silky chinese-style dress and a candy pink plaid cotton one, which reminds me a little of Lolita, or at least how I imagine her in my head.
Then we popped into the library, where I withdrew Bande à Part and a book on art and feminism that looks amaaaaazing. After that I just lazed around and day dreamed about a project I'd like to start in a few months, to organise a small artist-run gallery/space where I could show the work of students in the local sixth forms/colleges/university and hold community events like zine fests and craft evenings. Of course I'd need funding and generous volunteers to make it work, so I'll try and recruit some people when I begin art foundation. I've only really had the idea today, so it's at that airy, ethereal, intangible phase where anything feels possible. Like Schrodinger's cat: only by lifting the lid, putting myself out there and hoping for the best can I find out whether it will live or die.

Flower Crowns #2

Part of the Christmas gift I'm giving my friend this year is a flower crown (along with some other little goodies, but sshhhh). After creating a prototype (see below) I have made the final crown (above), which I think is pretty damn good, even if I do say so myself!

I then went to town to get some photos of myself wearing it in a photobooth. It was quite annoying though when I got there. Before inserting my money I had a look through the types of photo you could get and the choice was pretty shite. You could get 5 passport size and 5 for 'other ID' size in one range, so I clicked on the 'fun' range which was either one big portrait of you and your friends, 16 tiny little photos or one with a frame. Each of which cost £5! When did photobooths stop doing the usual strips of 4 or so photos, all different, so that you and your friends could pile in and take silly snapshots? So I ended up getting the passport style photos, which I am going to use in some art for the zine.

Someday I would like to build my own analogue photobooth, complete with red velvet curtain, but I think that day is pretty far off....

Issue One!

Yay! The first issue of Grin and Bear It zine is now here! It contains a few illustrations, a collage, some little anecdotes and a page about my foray into flower crown making. Eventually I would like to sell these on here, but I'm not sure how yet...
